A P R Y L | JOI

DIRECTOR OF BLOGGING | oversees all blogging efforts under Black Wholeness Collective; to include online interviews. We welcome Apryl-Joi to Black Wholeness Collective and look forward to healing under her blogging content.
Apryl-Joi is a writer, content creator, and queen of a good pivot. She's learned, that some of our most meaningful growth happens while we’re still figuring things out. Her relationship with writing goes back to the early 2010s, when she contributed to Sisters With Beauty, exploring natural hair, Black community, and her own experiences along the way.
Writing has remained one of the ways she makes sense of life: a place to process what’s in her head, talk to God, wrestle with what’s uncomfortable, and put language to experiences she’s still learning from.

A former teacher who later pivoted into fitness and has lived several professional lives since, Apryl-Joi knows something about starting over. She also knows what it’s like to look around and wonder whether life is unfolding the way it was supposed to. Her writing explores that tension through the lens of a Black woman navigating midlife, evolving friendships and relationships, career reinvention, ADHD, faith, loss, healing, and the sometimes messy work of becoming. Her love for Jesus is central to how she sees the world, though she has no interest in pretending faith has given her all the answers. She is still learning, still healing, still getting some things wrong, and occasionally discovering there are things she didn’t even realize needed
healing in the first place.
That honesty is at the heart of her writing. Apryl-Joi writes from inside the experience rather than waiting until she can wrap it neatly in a lesson. Her pieces may read like a conversation with your homegirl, a page pulled from her journal, or the thought you’ve had a hundred times but never quite knew how to put into words.

She hopes readers leave feeling seen, encouraged, sometimes challenged, and a little freer to think, feel, heal, grow, and become. And because wholeness doesn’t require taking yourself seriously all the time, Apryl-Joi is also known to turn completely ordinary song lyrics into unsolicited operatic performances.
No song is safe.
It's Time To HEAL!
